Christel Boeljon may have claimed her maiden title at the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open on Sunday, but she is taking the victory in her stride.
The 23-year-old from the Netherlands celebrated by paying for all of her friends and fellow professionals to go bowling at the Calista Resort on Sunday evening. She couldn’t buy them a drink as it was an all inclusive resort.
Since then, she has found time to go shopping and bought herself an iPad in between making an appearance on a popular Dutch television chat show.
She was interviewed by famous Dutch personality Paul de Leeuw on ‘de madiwodovrijdagshow’ on Nederland 1.
“Of course it was my first solo win so it means a lot to me. This is what I’ve been wanting to do for a long time and it’s great. It’s my third year on tour and I have my card for the LPGA and have played a couple of tournaments there. I did pretty well so I just feel very comfortable with my game and I have a very good team around me, so that’s nice,” Boeljon said.
She feels that she is a different player than last year, more comfortable with her game and secure in the knowledge that she also has her LPGA Tour card in America.
“I’m playing well. I’ll try to get my rest tonight and just play again and see what happens, obviously I’m playing well so hopefully I can continue. As long as I don’t over tire myself by doing a lot of practise I should be fine.”
On her chances for the ISPS Handa Portugal Ladies Open at CampoReal, where she tied for 15th 11 months ago, she said: “The greens seem softer and the course was playing quite easy today, as there was no wind, but if the wind picks up that makes it a different course.
“I was playing quite well today so I feel pretty good but it will come down to the putting on this course. It’s slightly different to last week. I was swinging it good today so I’m taking the afternoon off to get a bit of rest. You never know but I will do my best.”
