As a professional dancer on the BBC series ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, Brendan Cole has wowed millions of British television viewers whilst dancing with some of the most glamorous women in show business. Whilst competing in the 2012 Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open presented by EventScotland, he showed off some of his golfing skills.
Brendan: what do you like about golf?
The pleasure of the pain! There is something quite incredible when you do something and it looks so nice, it feels so nice and as a result at the end of it that’s what keeps people coming back. Most of us know how to play a really bad shot and after some of these shots you wonder why you come back at all but something keeps you coming back.
How did you get into the game?
I’ve had a little flutter for the game since I was a boy and my granddad put a club in my hand and I hit a ball and that was that. Just outside Christchurch.
If you weren’t a golfer, would you like to be a golf pro?
I would love to be a golf pro but my talent doesn’t quite match that capability so yes, that would be very nice.
What is the main difference between golf and dancing?
I have no idea. They are both extremely difficult. I wish I was better at one than the other.
Are there any similarities?
A lot of similarities in terms of timing and rhythm and relaxed movement. There are a heck of a lot of similarities.

How did you rate Carly Booth and Lynn Kenny as dancers after you gave them a lesson?
They were brilliant: amazing. They were troopers to do it in the first place and I think we all looked a bit crazy but lovely of them to get involved and I hope it helped to get people to watch this. In my opinion women’s golf is not looked upon nearly enough with high regard. When you see these girls hit the ball it’s incredible. Watching them and playing with them is something incredible so get down here and get supporting! The better it is for women’s golf.
Do you play in a lot of golf tournaments?
I do play a lot of charity days and it’s one of those things you get invited to and here I am.
