The idea and the creation of Martina Eberl’s Academy

The idea of creating a Golf Academy came to me when I was travelling around the world. I never found a golf academy the way I would have done it, with everything that I needed. In my opinion, to have complete golf training, you would need a technical coach, mental coach, fitness and nutrition coach and a clubfitter who takes care of you... so I decided that the Golf Academy that I always wanted to have will include all these.

One day, when I was pregnant, I was having lunch with the Golfclub Eschenried manager, (which is one of the biggest golf clubs in Germany with highest number of members). He asked about my plans and I said to him that “one day I would like to have my own school.” So, he said, “You know what? We would need a golf school now!“ I was 8-eight month pregnant at that moment and there was a challenge and a big opportunity to me, almost every golf course in Munich had a golf school already so “that was my chance and I had to use it.“

Thanks to my great husband (who is also a golf teacher) that supported me, we did it... but it was a lot of work, very stressful and really tiring, considering I just got the baby and I had to take care of her too.

The School: Martina Eberl Golf Academy

Linda was born in November 2010 and the Golf School got build up in December 2010-January 2011. We have nine people working in the Academy, all freelancing, and my husband is responsible for club fitting.

It is very exciting to find out what kind of people want to learn from us and practice with us. There are still old people that think “I just want to play golf, I don’t need all this”...which it is fine.

The school is focused for better players, but you can be a total beginner and start with us, too. Currently, the majority of our pupils have a medium level and we are starting to work with the club teams that were not very motivated at that moment. We have developed a special program for them.

My current role in this Academy is the owner-manager. I try to be with the rest of the team as often as I can, but I do not give golf lessons. 2012 is been difficult for me because I was practicing to compete on LET. From next year on I will be more involved. What I normally do is clinics like putting clinics, demonstrations and I play a lot with the pupils on the course and show them tactics. I play once or twice a week with them, normally with two pupils. The requests are now much more than I can do, unfortunately.

Around 40 per cent of our pupils are women who prefer learn golf with a woman professional. That is why I was very keen in having one lady pro, like Hanna Baum.

Our club teams (senior, juniors..) are now really motivated and successful now. We also went to Mallorca to practise. In total we have 130 junior pupils from Handicap 3 to 54, which makes the future look bright for the Academy!
