Jiyai Shin of South Korea recorded a third round of one under par 71 in the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Royal Liverpool on Sunday morning.
Shin finished her third round at 1.40pm with a 10 under par 54-hole total of 206 and took a three stroke lead into the fourth and final round, ahead of Karrie Webb of Australia, who shot a third-round 68. Inbee Park of South Korea had a third round 72 ending four under par and six shots off the lead.
After Friday’s play was cancelled due to strong winds, the championship committee took the decision to play the third and fourth rounds back to back on Sunday.
The last three groups started out ten minutes later than originally scheduled, with the final group teeing off at 1.50pm in strong winds and rain.
Jiyai Shin started the third round five strokes ahead of fellow South Korean Inbee Park however her lead was cut to two strokes after the first nine this morning as she went out in two over par 37.
She made par on the first five holes but bogeyed the sixth, birdied the seventh and dropped two more strokes at holes eight and nine, slipping back to seven under par. Park went out in one under par after making birdie on the par-three ninth hole to reach five under. Shin’s lead was then cut to a stroke after Park birdied the 10th to get to six under par.
However Shin responded with three birdies in a row from the 11th to climb three clear of Park. She dropped a shot at 17 after finding the bunker but then almost reached the 18th green in two before chipping and rolling in a four-footer for a final hole birdie to finish her third round in style.
Three-time championship winner Karrie Webb was level par on the front nine after countering a bogey on three with a birdie on six.
However, she was four under on the back nine. She birdied three holes in a row from the 11th and made a great up and down for birdie from the left bunker in front of the 18th green.
Conditions are much tougher today than on Saturday, with stronger winds gusting 25 miles per hour at times.
