Team Asia and Rest of World share honours in Hero Skills Challenge

The Hero Skills Challenge between Team Asia and Team Rest of the World, which preceded the HWIO 2012 at the DLF Golf and Country Club on Wednesday, ended in a draw after the teams won two of the skills challenges each.

Team Asia was represented by Thailand’s Phatlum Pornanong and Numa Gulyanamitta along with India’s Sharmila Nicollet and Vani Kapoor.

Team Rest of the World was represented by Australian Stacey Keating, Carly Booth from Scotland, Spain’s Carlota Ciganda and Becky Brewerton of Wales.

Double winner on the Ladies European Tour this season, Carly Booth won the long drive for Team Rest of World with a drive of 283 yards against Sharmila Nicollet’s 279 yard drive.

That was followed by the 100-yard pitch shot, which two-time Indian Open winner Phatlum Pornanong won playing for Team Asia, by hitting her shot to two feet, five inches from the flag.

The RoW team holed a long bunker shot to go 2-1 up before the Asian team won the long putt challenge from 50 feet.

With each skill worth Rs. 30,000, the teams shared the prize money of Rs. 1,20,000.
