Describe how your exercise program benefits you and your golf game.

Exercising is GREAT for my golf game , because I feel that I do not compensate with strange movements of my body , but instead, I feel strong, in balance, and my golf swing is in a better condition.

Describe when and why you started exercising for golf.

I started to exercise seriously , probably at 25 years old, but I have been always running since I was little.  I started seriously, because I was on Tour competing.

Describe how your pre-season exercise program is different to your in-season exercise program. For example, do you focus on different aspects of fitness? Are your goals different?

During the winter I exercise with a machine called KINESIS.  I focus, with my teacher Gabriele, to have elastic and strong muscles. We work also on balance and I go to the gym twice a week, and then I run two days.

With respect to your pre-season program, please describe your exercise program (where possible, include the type ofexercises you do, the frequency, dosage, duration of each exercise session etc).

When the golf season starts on Tour , I use elastic bends , so I can simulate  the Kinesis that I do at home.  I focus more on stretching then stenghthening.

With respect to your in-season program, please describe your exercise program (where possible, include the type of exercises you do, the frequency, dosage, duration of each exercise session etc).

During the season , I run three times a week after the game and exercise 15 minutes every day before the game. During the tournament week, I warm up every day, before going to the range and spend 5 minutes on the practice range.

What is the most enjoyable thing about your exercise program? And the least enjoyable thing about your exercise program?



The thing I love the most in the exercising program, is running!  What I like the least is , whatever exercise that is too hard,  so I am sweating a lot!


Which components of fitness (e.g. muscle strength, balance, muscle endurance, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, power) do you think are most important for playing golf?


I think that FLEXIBILITY, POWER and BALANCE  are the most important things to focus on when exercising.

Describe how important maintaining a healthy, balanced diet is for you and your golf game. 


I consider the diet very important. First of all, I eat a lot, because I move so I need to eat! I try to eat healthy , so I pay attention to what I buy. I try to eat a lot in the morning, normal for lunch, and  light in the evening with fish or meat with vegetables.


What tips would you give golfers who really dislike exercising or to those golfers who say that exercise is only for elite golfers

If I could give advice to another golfer I will tell him or her to drink a lot of water when playing, to bring almonds and energy bars on the course and if they don't like to exercise, at least walk for 20 minutes two days a week.
