‘Design a Board’ competition winner announced

Aberdeen Asset Management is delighted to announce the winner of its competition to ‘Design a Board’ for the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open, held at Archerfield Links, Friday 30 August – Sunday 1 September 2013.

Aberdeen Asset Management is delighted to announce the winner of its competition to ‘Design a Board’ for the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open, held at Archerfield Links, Friday 30 August – Sunday 1 September 2013.

Zara Mason, aged 11 from Dalry, Ayrshire, has won the competition after her artwork was selected by defending Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open champion, Carly Booth.

Children aged under 16 were invited to submit a piece of artwork depicting ‘Scottish Golf’, which will be turned into a 2.4m x 1m on-course board, on display throughout the three-day tournament next week.

Zara said: “I spotted an email from my golf club suggesting junior players should ‘get drawing’ for a competition, so I did. I enjoy both sport and art; it was the perfect way to spend an afternoon of my holidays.

“My design was trying to show a windy Scottish east coast day. A girl playing her tricky bunker shot (pink clouds for Carly!) with Archerfield House in the background. I used some artistic license as I haven't been there other than looking on their website.

That is what I enjoyed most about the competition, finding out about the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open, Archerfield Links and Carly Booth in particular, who was the same age as me when she became the youngest ladies club champion in Britain. It was all new to me.

“I really can't believe my design will be on a course board to be seen by golf pros and members of the public, it is hugely exciting. I can't wait to meet Carly Booth and thank her for noticing my design. I would love to find out how she keeps calm before teeing off....I always get butterflies.... Much easier to draw them!”

Carly Booth said: “I was impressed by a number of the entries and I enjoyed seeing how children depicted ‘Scottish Golf’. Some of the entries were quite quirky and made me laugh, and I look forward to seeing Zara’s colourful artwork in amongst the traditional advertising boards out on the course when I am playing.”

Zara and her family will also be attending the tournament on one day as VIPs.
