Warm-up routine during a tournament day- Tee time 10:20 Day 2 Lacoste Ladies Open de France
Sophie Walker was born in Grimsby (England) and started to play at the age of 10. She joined the Ladies European Tour in 2006 and also holds a degree in Sport Science and Management from Loughborough University. In 2010, Sophie had her best season up to date which included a best-career finish tied 2nd at the Ladies Scottish Open.
Sophie has played in 14 events this season and is currently ranked 67th at the ISPS Handa Order of Merit. We asked her about the normal tournament pre-routine right before her tee time on Day 2 during the Lacoste Ladies Open de France and this is what she said:
7:45 Wake up call
7:50 Breakfast: Huge bowl of cereals(Muesli) with semi-skimmed milk, it is one of my favourite things, and then a cup of English breakfast tea
8:20 Back to my room, shower and get ready. Also few stretching exercises for around 15 minutes
8:45 Get the bus and leave bus from hotel
9:00 At Golf de Chantaco- When I get to the golf course, I normally mark some balls golf, do some pin positions and read the Daily Mail. I like to read the newspaper in the morning and relax. I check the wind on the notice board and then start them warm-up routine, which normally takes me around an hour.
9:20- 9:35 Putting green - I do some putting drills, short putts… with 3 golf balls and then move the equipment out of the way and do some normal putts, pace-putting.
9:35 Driving range - On my way to the driving range, there was the chipping area, so I did some chipping and some bunker shots. Once at the driving range, I start with some pitches and then I work my way up from wedges to 8, 6. 4 –iron, rescue, 3-wood, driver and then I do few of the par-3’s we are playing, with a tee. Finally, I play the 3 first holes, from 3rd to 1st hole, so I make sure my last shot on the range is my first tee shot.
10:00 Back to putting green and I do some short putts. I have to hole three putts in a row, before I go to 1st tee
10:10 On the 1st tee- I put some tees and ball-marker in my pocket and grab some fruit. I dislike bananas, so I get some apples and a couple of bottles as I drink a lot of water on the golf course. I try to speak positively to myself and say “Come on!”. Sometimes I phone home if it is a long walk before heading to 1st tee to get me up.
