Second-year LET member Xi Yu Lin from Guangzhou turns 18 today but despite her tender years she has the resume of a veteran. She first appeared on the LET at the 2010 Sanya Ladies Open, where she finished in a tie for ninth place, aged 14. The following year she finished fifth in the same tournament on her professional debut. In 2012, she tied for fourth in Sanya and last year, as a rookie LET member, her two best finishes were both recorded in Hainan, China, with a tie for sixth at the Sanya Ladies Open and tied eighth at the World Ladies Championship. Little wonder she is looking forward to playing on home soil next week in Haikou!
You have played at Mission Hills Haikou before. How excited are you to be going back?
Yes it's always nice to be back in China playing tournaments and Haikou is not too far from my home also.
What are your impressions of Mission Hills Resort Haikou?
I really like this resort. The courses are always in good condition. The hotel and facilities are nice and I particularly enjoy the hot springs!
What is special about this venue?
It's huge! They have many things to do here and the hospitality is always great.
How does this compare with the other venues on tour?
There are not many venues that have everything on site like Mission Hills. The course is also one of the best we play all year.
What do you think of the unique 3-in-1 pro, team and amateur format?
It's fun! It's nice to play with my friends in a team event as we don't get many opportunities to do so.
What are your personal goals for the tournament?
Last year I had a good individual finish. This year I hope I can do well in both the individual and team event.
Do you feel your game is good enough to win?
Yes definitely. I've been working really hard on my game this winter with my coach Richard Sheridan. My fitness is getting better all the time, this time I will try my best and hopefully finish well.
How do you feel about your start to the season?
Actually my game is very good but the results haven't quite shown that. So this tournament I hope it will all fall into place.
What are your general goals for this year?
My main goal this year is to keep my LPGA tour card and improve my world ranking.
How have you been preparing for the WLC at Mission Hills and how are you approaching the new season?
This winter I spent time in Florida identifying areas for improvement both in my game and also physically. This means I have started the season much better than last year.
Do you have any new hobbies or have you done anything particularly interesting or noteworthy over the off-season or last few weeks?
No not really, I've been busy working hard on my golf! Hopefully at the end of this year I can have a nice holiday!
Is there anything new in your set-up this year, i.e. new clubs, coach, fitness regime, charity work, sponsor etc?
This year I am playing on LPGA so everything is new! I need a good team around me so I can compete against the best players.
