England’s rising star Felicity Johnson entered the winner’s circle in 2009 with her sensational win at the Tenerife Ladies Open, overcoming seasoned Solheim Cup player Becky Brewerton by two strokes at Golf Costa Adeje. Here, we catch up with the avid Aston Villa football supporter as she reveals how she has been spending her deserved time off.
Felicity Johnson: “After getting home from the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters it was time to get ready for Christmas. Having two little brothers it can be pretty manic getting ready for Christmas in our house. Once it does arrive, it’s a pretty quiet, family time. It’s also a time for me to put the clubs away for a while and relax. The clubs stayed hidden until 2010 was upon us. Then came the snow to prolong my rest time longer, when I had to resort to Wii Fit for my fitness work!
I was actually looking forward to getting going with practice, but the only practice I was doing was making snow balls! I was also getting pretty good at sledging down hills at the local park!
Since the snow has gone it’s been time to get cracking with preparing for the 2010 season. I’ve started working with a trainer to get rid of some of the good old Christmas food and get in shape for the long season ahead. I have had a few lessons with my coach, discussing what we are going to do with my swing. I liked the outcome of the discussions we decided there wasn’t too much to work on with my swing: bonus! Now it’s a matter of doing some work on my short game and getting back into tournament mode ready for the start of the season.
I have also spent quite a bit of time at Villa Park, the home of my beloved Aston Villa. I was there recently for a thrilling 6-4 victory against Blackburn Rovers in the Carling Cup semi final: what an amazing night! The stadium was absolutely buzzing as we reached our first final in 10 years: Wembley here we come!!!!
Aston Villa will play Manchester United in the Carling Cup final on Feb. 28, which is the same day that the final round of the Pegasus New Zealand Ladies Open, hosted by Christchurch, takes place. Will it be agony or ecstasy for Felicity? You can follow her on Twitter to find out!
