The Stupples family has announced that Karen Stupples, the 2004 Weetabix Women’s British Open Champion, gave birth to a baby boy Logan James at 04.37 on Saturday 21st April 2007, weighing in at 8lb 5oz. Karen’s dad Alan reported: “Mum, Dad (Bobby Inman) and Logan are doing great.”
Karen, who was a member of The 2005 European Solheim Cup Team, was a two time tournament winner in 2004, when she won the Weetabix Women’s British Open and the Welch/Fry’s Championship in the USA. She blew her challengers out of the water with a breathtaking display of golf during the final round of the £1.05million 2004 Weetabix Women’s British Open at Sunningdale to win her first major championship.
The 33-year-old from Deal in Kent fired a final round 64 which included an eagle three and an albatross two at the first two par fives. She became the first home winner of the event in 13 years and only the third English player to win a major. With her winning total of 19-under-par she equalled the tournament record set by Karrie Webb in 1997 and equalled the lowest total in a women’s major championship set by Dottie Pepper at the Kraft Nabisco Championship in 1999.
