LET reports its best ever year for website visits after receiving almost 4 million visits over 12 months.
The LET’s website visits rose by 125% in 2009 from the previous year, indicating that more people than ever are interested in women’s professional golf.
Almost 4 million visitors logged on to ladieseuropeantour.com from 1 January - 31 December 2009 and in the month of December, visits were up 87%.
The most visits came from the United Kingdom, followed by France, the USA, Sweden and Germany and the most popular pages were the home page, schedule and the image gallery, suggesting that fans are keen to see the action on the fairways through the LET’s pre-eminent window to the world.
The figures for December, which saw the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters and Qualifying School for 2010 take place, were “amazing”. Another addition in December was the introduction of “The Full Swing” newsletter, a regular questionnaire in which the top ranked LET stars answer a number of personal questions, designed to reveal the player’s true nature and to allow fans an insight “inside the ropes”.
Media coverage was up generally with a number of front covers and features in magazines internationally. Consistent with the LET’s international nature, the field for the Qualifying School contained players from 36 different countries, garnering increased interest from all over the globe.
The LET now produces a news feed, which has been a huge success, having been shown on most of the major news and sports news networks including CNN and Eurosport. In addition to the LET’s regular tournament television coverage, LET players have featured on a variety of television programmes including, among others, A Question of Sport, Gillette World Sport and Trans World Sport.
The good news for the LET continued with the announcement that the 2010 schedule will feature a record breaking 27 tournaments in 20 different countries: four more tournaments than in 2009.
The season starts with the inaugural Pegasus New Zealand Women’s Open hosted by Christchurch at Pegasus Golf Club from 25 – 28 February, followed by the ANZ Ladies Masters in Australia from 4 – 7 March, the Women’s Australian Open from 11 – 14 March and the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco from 18-20 March.
