Andrea Furst

BSc GradDipSocSc (Psych), MPsych (Sport & Exercise)

Andrea is the author of “Play the Game”. She completed a Master of Sport and Exercise Psychology at The University of Queensland and immediately developed a private practice. Andrea is the principal psychologist and director of Mental Notes Consulting (MNC), and is dedicated to providing ‘solutions for optimistic thinking’; specifically focusing on the psychological needs of sports people. MNC has several psychologists working together to promote the inclusion of mental skills training into all levels of sporting performance.

MNC has expanded into Asia with its headquarters in Singapore, where Andrea now resides. This is wonderful for athletes located in Asia as well as Australian athletes in transit between Australia and the rest of the world. Andrea has recently begun consulting to the Singapore Sports Council as their Head of Sport Psychology Department.

 
 
 
Dr. Kerrie Evans

Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist
PhD, MHSc(ManipPhty), BAppSc(Phty)

Dr. Kerrie Evans is a Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist who has been working with professional and amateur golfers for more than 10 years. Kerrie has a private practice on the Gold Coast, (Queensland, Australia), where she specializes in assessing and providing management programs for golfers. She works with a number of internationally renowned coaches and elite players but equally enjoys working with amateur golfers.

Kerrie is passionate about educating golfers about the importance of being physically fit for golf. She conducts workshops and lectures for the Australian PGA, presents to various elite golf squads as well as conducts information nights for club golfers. Kerrie also conducts workshops for physiotherapists and other health professionals who have a specific interest in golf. She has presented at several regional and national Golf Coaching conferences including the Australian National Golf Coaching Summit. Kerrie has written numerous golf-specific articles for golf magazines and newsletters. She is the Coordinator of weekly Golf Specific Fitness Classes for golfers of all ages and abilities.

In addition to clinical practice, Kerrie lectures and conducts golf-specific research at Griffith University on the Gold Coast. Her research has focused on low back pain in tour professionals, trainee professionals as well as amateur golfers, and has several publications in international physiotherapy and sports science journals. Kerrie has presented the results of her studies at national and international conferences, including the World Scientific Congress of Golf V.

 
 
 
Kellie Hogan

B Hlth Sci. (Nutr & Diet) (Hons) APD ISAK accredited Level 1 Anthropometrist

Kellie is our latest guest writer and the author of “Nutrition for Golf: Handicap or Advantage?” Kellie is a Sports Dietitian/Nutritionist working as a Project Manager in the area of community nutrition education for school aged children at Nutrition Australia in Queensland, Australia. In addition to this public health nutrition role, Kellie works as a private practice dietitian at various locations on the Gold Coast where she services athletes from a number of different sports.Kellie has been practising as a sports dietitian since 2000 and has worked with the Australian PGA for 5 years providing education for trainee and professional golfers. Kellie is the guest sports nutrition lecturer at Griffith University, Bond University and tutors at Queensland University of Technology in the area of Exercise and Sports Nutrition. She is currently completing further studies in Exercise and Sports Nutrition through the IOC (International Olympic Committee).

 
 
 
Sean Horan

(BExSc MPhty)

Sean Horan is Physiotherapist and Exercise Scientist with a special interest in golf. Sean works in private practice on the Gold Coast (Queensland, Australia), where he provides assessment and treatment programs to elite and recreational golfers as well as performing golf specific musculoskeletal screenings aimed at improving performance and preventing injuries. Sean has a particular interest in educating and working with young elite golfers but also enjoys working with older golfers. Sean has consulted as a physiotherapist to the ALPG at the ANZ Ladies Masters and the Australian PGA at the Queensland Open. He has also provided various golf specific workshops and lectures to trainee professionals, teaching professionals, physiotherapists and post-graduate sports physiotherapy students. Sean is also actively involved in the delivery of golf specific fitness classes to a range of golfers. As well as working clinically with golfers, Sean is a sessional Lecturer, and is also currently undertaking his PhD, at Griffith University on the Gold Coast. Sean's PhD is largely focussed on investigating the potential kinematic and physical differences between elite male and female golfers. The distinct lack of published research pertaining to the female golf swing has been a large motivating factor for Sean. This research will hopefully provide a greater insight into the female golf swing and allow for more specific training and injury prevention programs to be developed for the female golfer.

 
 
 
Sonia Offord

BPhty, MPhtyStudies(Sports)

Sonia Offord is the author of "Shoulder Injuries in Golfers". She is a Sports Physiotherapist who has a special interest in the assessment and management of shoulder injuries. She has been working in private practice for more than 10 years and is a Lecturer at Griffith University on the Gold Coast. Sonia consults to athletes of various ages and abilities, including Olympic and Para Olympic athletes. Sonia has a special interest in the relationship between physical factors, equipment and shoulder injuries in golfers and tennis players.
