Delacour Wins as the Maguire Twins Consolidate their Places at the Top of the PING Junior Solheim Cup Ranking
 Print

France’s Perrine Delacour left home hopes in tatters when she closed with a sensational nine under par 64 to claim a four shot victory over a strong international field at the Irish Under-18 Girls’ Strokeplay Championship at the Knightsbrook Hotel Spa and Golf Resort.

Delacour went into the final round trailing Ireland’s Lisa Maguire and Germany’s Quirine Eijkenboom by three shots but carded nine birdies and did not drop a single shot to finish on 12 under par 207 and storm to a four shot victory over compatriot, Manon Gidali.

Lisa Maguire closed with a one over par 74 to drop into a share of sixth place alongside France’s Celine Boutier but retained her place at the top of the PING Junior Solheim Cup Ranking after her win in the recent Spanish International Ladies’ Amateur Championship at Sherry Golf.

Lisa’s twin sister Leona closed with a storming five under par 68 at Knightsbrook to jump up to third place behind Delacour and Gidali. That was enough to move her up to second place on the Ranking and to consolidate her hopes of returning to the same course when the PING Junior Solheim Cup match is played there on September 20-21.

The Irish Under-18 Girls’ Strokeplay Championship was the second event which counts for qualification for this year’s PING Junior Solheim Cup match when Europe’s top girl golfers will be endeavouring to bounce back from an American victory at Aurora Golf Club in Illinois in 2009.

The Maguire twins both made their debuts two years ago and will be guaranteed places in this year’s team if they finish in the top six of the PING Junior Solheim Cup  Ranking at the end of the final qualifying event, the Girls’ British Open Amateur Championship, at Gullane on August 8-12. A further six wild card players will be selected before August 15.

Heading into the third qualifying event, the French International Lady Junior Championship at St Cloud on April 21-25, the Maguires head the Ranking ahead of three French Girls’ Emilie Alonso, Delacour and Gidali. Noemi Jimenez Martin currently occupies the sixth automatic place on the list. The full list is printed below.
