Kirsty Taylor will be back on the Ladies European Tour this year thanks to the sponsorship of Basingstoke-based telesales company, CRS.
The 32-year-old from Overton in Hampshire will make her first Tour start in eight months at the Deloitte Dutch Ladies Open, taking place at Broekpolder Golf Course in Rotterdam from June 3-5. Her last tournament was the Open de France in September, where she missed the cut.
Taylor was the LET’s Rookie of the Year in 2002 and enjoyed a career-best finish of third at the 2002 Wales WPGA Championship and a tie for third at the 2006 Tenerife Ladies Open.
She enjoyed a solid career up until last year, when she returned to Final Qualifying School at La Manga Club in Spain in January but failed to retain her full playing card, leaving her with only career money status.
She explained: “After trying to regain full rights at Tour school at the end of the year I decided to get a normal job and I started working as a call operator for a company in Basingstoke called CRS. I worked for them for a few months and after this time they got to know that I was a professional golfer. They decided they saw a lot of talent in me and offered the opportunity to back me for the year with the view of full time sponsorship for the 2012 season. I’m really grateful to them for allowing me to pursue my dream.”
Taylor is still in full time employment with the company but enjoys the flexibility of being able to practise and compete whenever necessary.
With her status, she feels that she will have the chance to play in around eight tournaments this year, starting in Holland.
“I’m looking forward to it. I haven’t got loads of expectations for next week because I’ve rebuilt my swing since the end of last year because of my weight and stuff. I’ve done some work mentally so we’ll see what happens. Obviously I’d like to do well but I’ve got no expectations. I’m just so pleased that these guys have given me the opportunity to give it a go.”
