A group of Ladies European Tour members took part in a long-drive competition on Wednesday ahead of the Allianz Ladies Slovak Open.
The competitors who hit their drives from halfway up the mountain overlooking the Gray Bear golf course included Laura Davies, Kirsty Fisher, Jenni Kuosa, Frances Bondad, Carly Booth, Kristie Smith, Anne-Lise Caudal, Rebecca Hudson, Julie Greciet, Sahra Hassan, Kym Larratt, Marjet van der Graaff, Melodie Bourdy, Caroline Westrup, Emma Cabrera-Bello, Carmen Alonso, Adriana Zwanck and Elena Giraud.
The players hit their drives from a raised tee, half way up a mountain in the Low Tatras that doubles as a ski slope in the winter. The altitude of the tee was around 860 metres, with 125 metres of elevation from the landing zone.
The winner was Laura Davies with a drive of 350 metres. Other prizes on the day for the Pro Am competition went to Becky Brewerton’s team, who won with a score of 14 under par, followed by Melissa Reid’s team two shots back in second. Reid played with Slovak NHL ice hockey players Miroslav Šatan, and Richard Lintner, plus Helen Alfredsson’s husband Kent Nilsson, a retired professional ice hockey centre. Gwladys Nocera’s team was third on 10 under par.
