Luna hoping to repeat perfect performance in Munich

Diana Luna with her trophy in Germany last year

Diana Luna will be aiming for two victories in a row at the UniCredit Ladies German Open presented by Audi from May 24-27 when the tournament will be staged for the fifth time at Golfpark Gut Häusern near Munich.

Italian Luna created a new Ladies European Tour record when she became the first bogey-free winner of an LET event in this tournament 12 months ago.

Not since the LET’s hole-by-hole records began in 2000, had there ever previously been a winner on the LET who had played bogey-free golf for 72 holes.

Luna carded 24 birdies for the tournament and no bogeys for a total score of 24 under par 264 at Golfpark Gut Häusern in Munich, scoring flawless rounds of 67, 67, 65 and 65.

She insists that rather than focusing on past performances, she will be concentrating on the task ahead this week.

“Of course last year was very, very special and I will never forget it, but I’m now focusing on this year’s tournament and playing the golf course again,” Luna said. “Nothing says that I can’t do that again and nothing is impossible, but of course it’s a different week and a different tournament and I will look at it that way and do my best. I have great memories but I’m focusing on this week.

“I think I have been playing pretty well and did a good job at the last tournament. I have confidence in my game and so of course I feel I have a good chance.

“I will keep doing my usual job but focusing on my putting, because it wasn’t as good at the last event.

“I like very much the way this tournament is organised and it’s a great event. I like the course because if you play well you get rewarded and the conditions are always really good.

“It’s great because we always have a good crowd in Germany which makes everything more exciting. I have always seen how they have organised some great events and it’s very well done. It makes us feel better and keener to give a good show.”

Since the first edition of the tournament in 2008, the tournament has increased in popularity each year attracting some of the world’s top players, such as Lexi Thompson and Michelle Wie.

This year, Germany’s Sandra Gal from Dusseldorf has returned after making her debut in The Solheim Cup as a member of the victorious European team in Ireland.

Fellow Solheim Cup players Laura Davies, winner of the Ladies German Open in 2010 and Sophie Gustafson, making her event debut, are also in the tournament where they will be playing for a total purse of €350,000. The winner will receive a first prize of €52,500 and an Audi A5 convertible car.
