Felicity Johnson shoots 64 to set target in final round
Felicity Johnson during the final round

Felicity Johnson was on fire during the final round of the UniCredit Ladies German Open presented by Audi, being played under sunny skies at Golfpark Gut Häusern.

The 25-year-old Englishwoman shot an eight under par 64 to set the clubhouse target at nine under par. She had a chance to tie the course record of 63 with a 35-foot birdie putt on 18 but three-putted for her second bogey of the day.

Johnson started with an eagle two at the first and followed with birdies at the second, third, fifth, sixth and eighth for an outward total of seven under par 29, equalling the LET’s all-time low nine-hole record held by 35 other players.

At that point, she was eight under par in total and only two strokes behind the tournament leaders, who were just starting their final rounds.

Johnson then birdied the 11th, bogeyed the 12th, but quickly recovered with back to back birdies on holes 14 and 15 to get to 10 under par overall, before dropping a shot at the last hole.

The tournament course record is 63, nine under par, set by Amy Yang in the third round of the 2008 event, which she won. This was equalled by Virginie-Lagoutte-Clement in the second round in 2011.

Johnson’s personal low-round is 62, as she shot 10 under in the first round of the 2008 Goteborg Masters in Sweden.

Bree Arthur, Rebecca Hudson and Pernilla Lindberg began the final round tied for the lead on 10 under par, with Laura Davies, Sandra Gal and Anne-Lise Caudal two strokes behind.

The title was still wide open coming into the back nine with Caudal and Hudson tied for the lead at 11 under after nine and eight holes respectively. Caudal then took the outright lead at 12 under with a birdie on the 10th hole.

There is a large gallery of 12,500 spectators today, creating a great atmosphere and there has been a new record with 35,000 visitors this week.

The winner today will take home a first prize of €52,000 and an Audi A5 convertible. There is also the tantalising prospect of an Audi R8 5.2 Quattro worth €158,000 waiting on the par-three 15th for anyone lucky enough to ace the hole.
