An official welcome reception took place at the five-star Iberostar Anthelia Hotel on Tuesday evening for competitors and guests at the Tenerife Open de España Femenino.
Alicia Garrido, executive director of the event organiser Deporte & Business welcomed the four former event champions in the field to the stage.
Australian Nikki Garrett, who won in 2007 at Country Club Mediterráneo Castellón, was joined by Becky Brewerton of Wales, who won the 2009 title in Panoramica; Laura Davies, who won the title in 2010 at Flamingos Golf and in 1986 at La Manga Club and Melissa Reid, last year’s winner at La Quinta.
The tournament is taking place at Golf Las Américas in the Canary Islands from September 20-23 this week. Access to the course and car parking is free for all spectators.
There are 17 Spanish players hoping to become the first home winner of the event, who were also welcomed on stage.
Professional golfers Carlota Ciganda, Tania Elosegui, Laura Cabanillas, Emma Cabrera, Sara Beautell, Ana Larrañeta, Marina Arruti , Carmen Alonso, Maria Beautell, Mireia Prat, Mariana Macias, Adriana Zwanck, Virginia Espejo, Patricia Lobato will be joined by three amateurs: Patricia Sanz, Lucia Cortezo and Lara Hernandez.
