LET Rewind: World No.1 Yani Tseng crowned 2011 champion in Suzhou
 Print

From left: Xu Yueping, chairman of Suzhou Taihu International Golf Club, Yu Xingnan from Suzhou Wuzhong District, tournament champion Yani Tseng and Zhang Xiao-ning, General Secretary of China Golf Association.

With the fifth China Suzhou Taihu Open taking place at Suzhou International Golf Club from 26-28 October, we re-visit the 2011 tournament won by World No.1 Yani Tseng.

Yani Tseng won for the 11th time in 2011 at the China Suzhou Taihu Open and Suzhou had never had so many spectators.

More than 7000 people came to watch the tournament, including many youngsters, with their faces painted and flags held high in support of the world number one from Taipei.

Tseng shot rounds of 68, 66 and 66 for a three-round total of 200, 16 under par, to end seven strokes clear of Sweden’s Pernilla Lindberg, with Melissa Reid and Lee-Anne Pace a stroke further back in a tie for third.

This was Tseng’s 11th victory of the season and the 30th title in four seasons as a professional.

Tseng thoroughly enjoyed her time in Suzhou and played in beautiful, early autumn conditions amongst the scenery of the Southern Yangtze River.

The green speed was almost 11.3 for the tournament, which suited her game and after the tournament, she was quick to compliment the organisers, promoter and golf club.

There is a saying in China: “In heaven there is paradise, below there are Suzhou and Hangzhou” (Suzhou and Hangzhou are two famous cities in China).
