LET Officials relishing return to Suzhou Taihu International Golf Club
The 17th green at Suzhou Taihu International Golf Club

The members and staff of the Ladies European Tour are equally delighted to be returning to Suzhou International Golf Club for the fifth edition of the China Suzhou Taihu Open, taking place from October 26-28.

The fact that this is the fifth successive year at the venue demonstrates the success of the tournament, which gives China’s elite golfers the competitive platform to test their game against some of the best players from the Ladies European Tour.

There is absolutely no doubt that the international players all thoroughly enjoy coming to Taihu, with a fantastic golf course and practice facilities, luxury hotel and all of the services expected at a first class event.

Tournament Director Fraser Munro, who attended the tournament in 2011, commented: “Suzhou International Golf Club has a lovely clubhouse, there is nice accommodation for players and the course was a good test. There were fantastic crowds last year and I think the crowds have been getting bigger over the years since the tournament started. Last year, with Yani appearing, there was an absolutely huge crowd, especially at the weekend, so it was a good atmosphere for all the players.

“I am really looking forward to this year. We have a good relationship with the CLPGA and they have been assisting us with the planning so we have been keeping in close contact with the promoter, the club and CLPGA to get everything organised. Everything is going to improve and it is going to be even better again this year.”

Andy Lott, who has acted as a tournament director and rules official in Suzhou over the last three years, commented: “The hotel where we stay is ideal; you can actually see the golf course from your room. We have very short shuttle which runs very well back and forwards to the golf club. People are very welcoming, friendly people both in the hotel and the golf club and they always try to look after you the best as they can.

“The golf course is a very nice golf course, very good set up. I think it is a good length for the players. There is quite a lot of water on the course; it is well maintained and very nice. The club house is large and everything is in place.”

It is an exciting time for golf in China with several watershed moments over the past 12 months and the LET is delighted to once again be working with the China Golf Association, the CLPGA Tour and the Ladies Asian Golf Tour.

A total of 114 players, including 55 players from the Ladies European Tour, will contest the 54-hole strokeplay event which features a cut to the leading 60 professionals and those tied after the second round.

The increase in prize money to €350,000 is highly significant and reflects the growing standard and prestige of the championship.

The programme of events features a sponsor clinic and Pro Am on Wednesday, with practice days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday before the tournament begins.
