How did you get into golf?
I’ve been playing golf since I was 15 and that was all, just practice and play, every day.
Who is your greatest influence?
My parents. My mum and dad also play golf. My mom is second in Namibia. She is an eight or nine handicap. We tour when we win for Namibia in tournaments or All Africa or something. We always tour together because it’s me and her and a third one. It’s first, second and third. We have toured the world together and she’s always with me. It’s quite exciting and very nice to have that.
Do you have any siblings?
I’ve got two brothers and one sister. They do not play golf, only me, my mum, my dad and my uncle.
You live in Johannesburg now. What about your parents?
It’s just me. My family live in Namibia. I’m on my own. I moved five years ago when I was 15. My mom told me: go! She puts me on a plane and I just had to grow up and learn how to stand on my own two feet and I did it.
Your dream four ball
Tiger Woods, Ernie Els and Gary Player.
What’s on your playlist?
I like Rhianna and Chris Brown and house music with rhythm that’s very chilled. I also like rock but not too hard. I like music that relaxes me.
What do you do to relax?
Chill at home in front of a TV, watch DVDs. I like movies, but I don’t have a favourite. Comedies are my favourite genre to watch.
Do you play any other sports?
No, just golf and gym.
Do you support any sports teams?
Rugby, yes. Blue Bulls and South Africa.
What languages do you speak?
Only English and Afrikaans. Afrikaans is my first language.
What can you tell us about your country?
Namibia is only desert, so I grew up on a course that’s only sand. Tee boxes and greens are grass but the rest is sand so all of it is just desert. You carry your own little mat of grass with you and play off that from the sand.
Are there many golfers in Namibia?
I’m number one in Namibia. There are a few guys that are quite good but they are not going for it. I will be the first professional golfer there.
What shot do you love to practice?
Mostly my driver and then my shots into the green, because that’s the most important! My favourite at the moment is my shots into the green because it’s solid, it’s very good. That’s what saves me and helps me make birdies: hitting it close and tapping in for birdie.
Who is your coach?
Douglas Wood. The same coach that teaches Ashleigh Simon.
What club do you practice at?
Serengeti. It’s my favourite golf course.
What’s your favourite expression?
They normally tell me to ‘Go get it!’
Any holes in one?
I had one four years ago at Royal Johannesburg in the SA Amateur.
Your lowest round?
64 in the third round of final stage Lalla Aicha Tour School.
