We meet 24-year-old Jia Yun (pronounced Jar-Yoon) who turned professional in 2011 and finished tied for 25^th at Lalla Aicha Tour School, earning her card for her rookie season on the LET in 2013.

How did you start playing golf?

My father played golf and took me to the driving range in Guanzhou when I was 12.

When did you get serious?

I’m not very good at sports because of my size but as an amateur I played. Shanshan (Feng) was in the same team and she played really well so I didn’t think I had any chance to be a pro. After I went to college in China, the Chinese national team was built at that time, in 2007. I got a lot of opportunities to play so at that moment I decided to become a pro.

When did you turn pro?

In January 2011.

Where did you go to university?

I went to Guangzhou University and studied English.

What are your hopes for the 2013 season?

I hope I can keep my card. I think I will travel between America and Europe.

What is your favourite club in the bag?

I like driver: I hit it really straight but it is tiring to practice (because I’m only 157cm tall!)

What is your lowest ever round?

64, in a university tournament in China.

Have you had a hole in one?

Only once, but I didn’t see it.

What clubs do you play?

TaylorMade clubs and a Rife putter.

What else do you carry in your bag?

A swing tool, some toys, a bear, things that look cute.

Do you have any superstitions?

No.

What do you like doing in your down time?

We spend a lot of time staying together in a training centre in China so there is not much time at home. I love watching basketball games. I also like cooking, any kind of food.
