South African players glad to be back home for SA Women’s Open

The South African players are reveling in their opportunity to play on home turf this week as they prepare for the South African Women’s Open.

Southbroom Golf Club, a holiday course on the Hibiscus Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, welcomes the world's leading female professionals to the Coast of Many Colours for this week’s Ladies European Tour event being played from 19-21 April 2013.

The picturesque course is rated No.1 by Golf Digest in the Top 30 Fun Courses in South Africa and is ranked No.8 by City Press amongst South Africa’s Top 10 Jewels.

Stacey Lee Bregman, who recently posted a photo on Twitter of a tee box right beside the rugged coast, says that the players are in for a treat and fortunate to be playing beside the coast in the warmth of the South African summer.

The tournament has received a boost with the news that fellow South African professional Ashleigh Simon has now confirmed her participation in South Africa’s oldest women’s professional golf tournament after recovering from surgery.

Simon said: “I'm very happy to let you all know that I will be playing in the SA Women's Open next week in Southbroom. There will be a little rust to dust off but no better place to start than in your home country.”

Lee-Anne Pace, Tandi Cuningham, Laurette Maritz, Connie Chen and LET rookie Melissa Eaton are amongst the 31 South African professionals geared up for a great week in their home tournament which is supported and organized jointly by the Hibiscus Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development and Tourism, World Sports Promotions, the Women's Professional Golf Association of South Africa and the Ladies European Tour.

The tournament, which features a €290,000 prize fund, will be played over 54 holes of stroke play.
The field will consist of 108 players - 70 Ladies European Tour members; 23 WPGA members; 10 South African amateurs from the WGSA Order of Merit and five Promoter invitations. Last year’s tournament, played at Selborne Park Golf Club was won by Germany’s Caroline Masson.
