German Event Serves as a Taster for The 2015 Solheim Cup and The PING Junior Solheim Cup Matches

Live scoring fro the event can be found here:

Karolin Lampert and Quirine Eijkenboom head a strong international field at this week’s Allianz German Girls’ Championship to be played over the famous Golf Club St Leon-Rot near Heidelberg.

The two German internationals will be joined by Denmark’s Emily Pedersen, Sweden’s Linnea Ström, England’s Gabby Cowley, Scotland’s Clara Young, Wales’ Chloe Williams and French quintet Anyssia Herbaut, Shannon Aubert, Lauralie Migneaux, Eva Gilly and Mathilda Cappeliez as Europe’s leading girl golfers battle it out for places in the European team to face America in this year’s PING Junior Solheim Cup at Inverness Golf Club in Denver, Colorado, on August 13-14.

The German Girls’ Championship is the third qualifying event for places in The 2013 European Junior Solheim team and it will also serve as a dress rehearsal for The 2015 Solheim Cup and The PING Junior Solheim Cup matches which are both to be played at St Leon-Rot in two years’ time.

St Leon-Rot was announced as the venue for the 2015 matches late last year and it is bound to be a special occasion because it marks the first time that Germany has staged either The Solheim Cup or The PING Junior Solheim Cup and is also the first time one club has been used as the venue for both matches.

John A Solheim, Chairman CEO of PING, sees St Leon-Rot as the perfect venue for the matches and his view is echoed by Ladies European Tour Chief Executive Ivan Khodabakhsh.

"We are very excited to have The PING Junior Solheim Cup on the beautiful St Leon-Rot, the first time the junior matches will be held on the same venue as The Solheim Cup," said Solheim, "The PING Junior Solheim Cup has been held on some wonderful courses but always on a separate facility from the professional competition. This will offer a wonderfully exciting and rewarding experience for the juniors to compare their play with that of the best lady professionals from Europe and the United States."

German International Boys and Girls Amateur Championship 2013: 7 - 9 June 2013

“I would like to wish the best of luck to all the players, staff and volunteers at the Allianz German Girls’ Championship at St Leon-Rot,” said Khodabakhsh. “This is one of six European qualifying tournaments for The 2013 PING Junior Solheim Cup and it is played at the club which will host both The Solheim Cup and The PING Junior Solheim Cup in 2015.

“The PING Junior Solheim Cup has become increasingly important in developing the best talent from Europe and the United States of America,” he added. “The tournament helps to identify star Ladies European Tour players of the future and is a priority for the LET. The organisation is going to focus much more on developing juniors in the future.”

Golf Club St Leon-Rot is looking forward to hosting this week’s Allianz German Girls’ Championship and both The 2015 Solheim Cup and The 2015 PING Junior Solheim Cup in two years’ time. The Solheim Cup will be played on September 18-20, 2015, while The PING Junior Solheim Cup is staged earlier in the same week.

“We are honoured this year’s Allianz German Girls’ Championship has been selected as one of qualifying events for The 2013 European PING Junior Solheim Cup team,” said Eicko Shulz-Hanßen, the Managing Director of Golf Club St Leon-Rot.

“It is the tenth year in a row that Golf Club St Leon-Rot has hosted the Championship and this year promises to be extra special with both The Solheim Cup and The PING Junior Solheim Cup matches being played here in 2015.

“There are a large number of great players from Germany and from the rest of Europe playing in this week’s event and on behalf of the club I would like to wish them all the very best of luck,” he added.

The likes of Caroline Masson, Carlota Ciganda, Charley Hull, Azahara Munoz and Caroline Hedwall all played in the PING Junior Solheim Cup at one time or another and at the moment Pedersen and Ström are the favourites to succeed them after heading The 2013 PING Junior Solheim Cup Ranking after the opening two events in Spain and France.

The current top-12 (in order) on the European Ranking comprises Denmark’s Emily Pedersen (82.50 points), Sweden’s Linnea Ström (72.50), France’s Shannon Aubert (40), Spain’s Nuria Itturios (32.50), Germany’s Quirine Eijkenboom (32.50), France’s Anyssia Herbaut (30), Sweden’s Jessica Vasilic (30), France’s Lauralie Migneaux (30), France’s Mathilda Cappeliez (30), France’s Eva Gilly (20), England’s Gabriella Cowley (10), Sweden’s Emma Svensson, Holland’s Anne Van Dam (5) and Germany’s Leonie Harm (3.75).

Pedersen, Ström, Aubert, Eijkenboom, Herbaut, Migneaux, Cappeliez, Gilly, Cowley, Svensson and Van Dam all play at St Leon-Rot. The next PING Junior Solheim Cup European qualifying event is the Ladies’ British Open Amateur Championship at Machynys Peninsula G & CC (June 11 -15) and it is followed by the European Girls’ Team Championship at Linköping, Sweden (July 9-13) before the qualifying system concludes at the European Ladies’ Team Championship at Fulford GC, England (July 9-13) when the leading six players from the official Points Table will earn an automatic place in the European side.
