Ricordeau sets clubhouse target before big names tee off

Team Europe: Marion Ricordeau from France (right) and her Spanish boyfriend, Inigo Ceballos

Frenchwoman Marion Ricordeau showed the way with a second successive round of 67 for a 10-under total midway through the second round of the ISPS HANDA Ladies European Masters at Buckinghamshire Golf Club in Denham on Saturday.

The 26-year-old from Toulouse, who graduated to the LET through the Access Series this year, fired five birdies to end on 10-under-par.

Playing in perfect conditions, under sunny skies in temperatures of 24C, she birdied holes, two, three, five, 11 and 14.

Ricordeau has made three cuts from eight starts this year and her confidence was so low she considered pulling out of this week’s ISPS HANDA Ladies European Masters.

She said: “I played so bad last week after practising a long time, very hard, I was thinking, it’s not paying off, I’m tired, I just don’t want to go and my caddie and boyfriend said you have to go, you don’t know what’s going to happen. I think that’s why I came really relaxed, not thinking of any result or card to keep. Maybe that’s why it worked.

“I’ve been practising hard the last few months. Last week I was thinking of not coming here. I was relaxed on the course and I’m enjoying what I’m doing. As long as it works, I’m fine. I’ll do my best tomorrow to play well again.

“I won’t change what I’m thinking. I’m sure I’ll be nervous tomorrow because it’s the first time in my life I’ll be playing in the last few groups the last day. I’ll be nervous for sure but I’ll do my best to keep the score as low as I can.”

Overnight leaders Caroline Masson and Ashleigh Simon were continuing their solid play from yesterday by mid afternoon. English pair Laura Davies and Charley Hull were also on fire, both five-under-par for the front nine.

Meanwhile, Sandra Gal of Germany, another Solheim Cup prospect, used her 8-iron to hole in one at the fifth.
