Charley Hull chasing Ricoh Womenís British Open dream

England’s Charley Hull is playing in her second Ricoh Women’s British Open, after teeing up at Royal Liverpool last year as an amateur.

However, the 17-year-old has a longer relationship with the championship than her age would imply.

She first played in the Pro-Am with Morgan Pressel ahead of the 2006 championship at Royal Lytham and St. Annes and played in Stacy Lewis’s Pro-Am team at Royal Birkdale.

Now in her rookie year as a professional, this is her first chance to earn the £263,989 cheque that would come with securing her first title on the Ladies European Tour schedule.

She first played on The Old Course at St Andrews as a 13-year-old in the St Rule Trophy.

This week, she is in the limelight after a superb run of five runner-up finishes at the start of the year.

European Solheim Cup Captain Liselotte Neumann will name her four wild card picks for next month’s tournament in Colorado on Sunday evening, piling on additional pressure.

However, Hull will be focused purely on her golf this week.

Speaking on the eve of the championship, she said: “At the end of the day, I'm 17, so I just go out there and have fun.  I just enjoy it.  I just enjoy being out on the golf course and hitting the ball around, so I know I'm going to be thinking about it.  But I've got nothing to lose to be honest, first year on Tour, so go out there and play.”

Hull described some of her experiences from her first year on tour so far and how she particularly enjoys playing with certain players.

She said: “I love playing with Carlota Ciganda, I think she's a great player and she's great for the Tour.  She reminds me of Seve.  I was playing with her in Spain the other week, I was left and she was right and we were getting it out of the trees and getting up‑and‑down and walking off for par.  I love watching her play, and Laura (Davies).

“I love playing with Laura.  I think kind of similar in a way, in that we are both aggressive.  I have some good memories because the first time I ever played with Laura was in Morocco and I went out and shot a 64 and I shot a 67 with her and a 68 and a 66 last week.  I feel like she brings out the best in my game to be honest.  I feel like she has no fear out on the golf course, which is really, really good, and I've learned a lot of things from Laura, how to play the game and to think.”

When asked what Laura said after her 64, she added: “She said, "That was a great round."    Yeah, it was just really good.  It was funny, because I was playing with Lee‑Anne Pace as well, that day. I played with Lee‑Anne a lot during the year and after the round I always said, “Thanks, I learned a lot from you!” When I shot 64 she come in and goes, “Thanks, I learned a lot from you!” which was kind of funny!”

Hull is teeing off as part of a marquee group at 11.37am with Michelle Wie and Jessica Korda in the first round on Thursday.

Davies starts 11 minutes earlier with So Yeon Ryu and English amateur Georgia Hall at 11.26am.

Fellow LET star Carlota Ciganda starts at 7.36am with the 2005 winner Jeong Jang and LET No.2 Gwladys Nocera.

Current LET ISPS HANDA Order of Merit leader Lee-Anne Pace is out at 12.43pm with Gerina Piller and Se Ri Pak.
