Linnea Strom: a name to watch!

Linnea Strom from Gothenburg in Sweden was the leading amateur at the Helsingborg Open. The 16-year-old finished in a tie for 38th place, alongside Carin Koch, after rounds of 77, 68, 76 and 74 for a total of 295, seven-over-par.

“I’m really happy. I had a lot of fun this week and played good golf but missed many putts,” said Strom, who rated the achievement as one of the best of her short career along with winning the European Team Championships twice for Sweden, including in Linkoping this year.

Strom was a member of the European PING Junior Solheim Cup Team last month and those with a sharp eye might recognise the 1.76m tall player from Colorado Golf Club, where she was wearing a ‘funny big blue wig’ and face paint whilst cheering on the European Solheim Cup Team.

“It was very fun to play for the PING Junior Solheim Cup Team but to be at the big Solheim Cup and on the first tee it was very fun,” said Strom, who admires golfers Caroline Hedwall and Annika Sorenstam.

Strom is currently six months younger than Charley Hull but plans to complete high school in Sweden for the next two years before taking up a golf scholarship in the United States.
