How Celine Herbin prepares for a Tournament

In this article, Celine Herbin from France discusses her tournament warm-up routine and a typical practice day at home.

Warming Up for a Tournament Round (Tee time 10am):

I wake-up at 7.15am and my normal breakfast is cereals (Special K) with milk and orange juice.

I leave the hotel at 8.15am and get to the club 1 hour 40 minutes before my tee time, at 8.20am, so once I get the bag from the caddie master I go to the putting green for 25 minutes. First I hit long putts and after, short putts.

One hour before the tee time I head to the range. I stretch for five minutes or so. Then I spend 30 minutes at the range. I start with sand-wedge, pitching wedge, 8-iron, 6-iron, 4-iron, 5-wood, 3-wood, driver.

At 9.30am I come back to the clubhouse to write the pin positions in the yardage book. I have five or 10 minutes on the putting green with one ball, practising the routine like I’m on the course. I don’t have to hole it.

Ten minutes before the tee time I’m on the tee and take water, the card, etc.

I pick up three or four tees. I normally mark my balls with three blue dots during the days before.

A Typical Day at Home:

I normally get up at 8am and have the same breakfast. I get to the golf course around 9am. One routine would be to go to the range from 9-11am hitting all kind of shots and thinking about the technique.

I’m always trying to fix the golf swing. There are always things you are trying to improve.

I always hit with the 8-iron. I can hit with the 8-iron for two hours because it’s the same swing for all clubs.

Then usually I go to putt from 11-12, long putts, short putts. At 12 I’m done and go for lunch. I don’t eat too much. In summer, I was having sliced chicken with salad and fruit. After eating I rest for a while.

At 2pm I go to the course. Usually I play 18 holes alone, so it’s pretty quick. I practise six days out of seven per week so I usually play 18 holes four times a week. It’s not a long course.

I finish at five. If I’m happy with my short game I come back only to putt but if I need to improve my short game I’ll go to the bunker shots and chipping for one hour until 6pm.

Usually when I arrive at home I stretch. I go to the gym only in the winter. I only do stretching during the golf season.

I have dinner around 7.30 or 8pm. I prefer fish and a little bit of pasta.

In 2013, her second full year on tour, Celine recorded a career-best finish of 4th at the Open de Espana.
