Steph Nas Tournament Warm-Up Routine
 Print

Steph Na talks us through her preparation for a 9:15 tee time at the recent LACOSTE Ladies Open de France.

Stephanie Na belongs to our large group of players from Australia and joined the tour in 2009. She started to play golf aged 4, although artistic gymnastics was her preferred sport from the ages of 6 to 14. Within her career records, we can find 3 top ten finishes and a career best finish of 3rd in the 2009 SAS Masters at Larvik Golfklubb in Norway. Stephanie has played in 14 events this season, with her best result tying for 19th at the Helsingborg Open and she is currently ranked 77th on the ISPS Handa Order of Merit.

Steph explains what she did before hitting her first shot on Day 3 at her most recent tournament:

I woke up at 6:35. For breakfast, I’ve been having cold porridge, so you put milk in the oats the night before and cover it and put it in the fridge. We add some apples, mandarin, strawberries, seeds and some honey and that’s my breakfast. I have some water, maybe an Actimel (because it’s hot).

I’ll have a shower, put on some perfume, make-up, mainly sun screen.

After breakfast I do some stretching. In France I stretched at our apartment because we were close to the course. I left at 7:45, arrived at the course and put the pin positions in my yardage book.  By this time it’s almost 8am.

For my warm up, I’ll putt for about 10, 15 minutes, long putts, then I’ll chip for ten minutes as well, then I go to the range for about 25 minutes. I left the range at 8.50am and I finish off with some short putting.

On the range, I start with some wedges: my 60 degree, my sandy, my pitching wedges. I always hit 8-iron, 5-iron, rescue, 3-wood, driver. If I hit more irons I spend too much time. I finish off with three pitch shots with my lob wedge.

On the putting green, I do short putting, inside six feet for five or 10 minutes. I finish off by holing three putts from about three feet and then go to the tee 10 minutes before.

I take two big tees and one small tee in my pocket, yardage book in my back right pocket. I mark the balls at the start of the week, around a dozen. I mark one large pink dot by the number and a black line over the ProV1x.

I try and say something positive to myself, like, ‘let’s have a good day,’ or ‘one shot at a time.’
