A typical day in Stefania Croce’s life preparing for a tournament

Stefania Croce during second round at the Lalla Meryem Cup this year

Stefania Croce was born in Bergamo (Italy) and joined the Ladies European Tour in 1989.  She belongs to one of the most popular and traditional golfing families in Italy. Croce was taught by her father Angelo Croce and Alberto Croce, Stefania's uncle, has been a succesful professional on the men's tour and is now a member of the European Senior Tour.  Stefania has played 11 events this season with her best results so far a tie for 18th at the World Ladies Championship (China) and tied 21st at the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open. She is currently 65th on the ISPS Handa Order of Merit and has over 500,000 € in career earnings, including one tour victory in 1992 (Ford Classic).

In this series we focus on how golfers prepare for tournament play. We interviewed Italy's Stefania Croce during the Lacoste Ladies Open de France, where she finished tied for 29th. Stefania told us about a typical day at home a week before a tournament:

When I am at home, a week before a tournament, I combine my practice with teaching as I am a golf teacher at Virginia Golf Club (Appiano Gentile, Como, Italy) too. So I make sure the mornings are for myself and then in the afternoon I give some golf lessons. So a normal day would be like this, more or less:

7:00 Wake –up call.

7:30 I go to Mass.

8:00 Breakfast: cereals, bread with honey, tea and fruit….and I can have also a salad (laughs).

8:30 Warm up exercises at home.

9:30 At the golf course - the first thing I do once I get there is to take a cup of coffee.

9:30 – 12:30 Practice 9 holes: I usually go on the course directly, I do not stay on the driving range. I play 9 holes by myself but with different balls, not just one ball. So I chip a few times and hit 2-3 drivers. I concentrate of what I am doing and on what I want to practice that particular day, sometimes it is the long game and maybe two days later, it is the short game.

12:30 Lunch- Snack: I eat a sandwich.

13:00-14:00 Short game practice - If I feel I have to do something else, like more putting or chipping, I stay an extra hour.

15:00-18:00 Golf lessons and after that I am really tired.

18:30-18:50 Running to just relax for about 20 minutes. It’s perfect, because I exercise and at the same time, I relax.

19:00 Home, dinner (and clean the dishes…) I have normally for dinner some protein, meat and vegetables. No pasta.

22:00-23:00 Bed, depending if I watch a movie or not.
