Q. You’ve been out here for a little while, you played in the Pro-Ams before you came to Royal Pines, do you normally do that when you come to Australia?
STACY LEE BREGMAN: To be quite honest, I haven’t been here for the last two years due to injury unfortunately. I don’t normally play the Pro-Ams and it seems like they are paying off and the ALPG has done a great job hosting all those events to lead up to this and given us internationals a chance to get a nice warm up and I think it has done me the world of good.
Q. What injuries have you had over the last couple of years?
STACY LEE BREGMAN: I pulled my foot about two years ago, and I had pneumonia two weeks before coming here and I then I had laser surgery done during that period so the last two years I’ve just had a bit of a break of December/January/Feb and I thought I was ready to come back and also I’m injury free.
Q. And your plans for tomorrow just play the same?
STACY LEE BREGMAN: Definitely, I just have to first find out how I can shaft my 8-iron and that’s fine.
Q. Oh yes, we heard, was that on your second hole?
STACY LEE BREGMAN: No, it was on my first hole. It just had a bit of a tree in the way I thought I’d hit before my shot went in anyways. So I hit the tree and the shaft just bent and broke – but you can’t do anything about that.
Q. I think you still made par from that position with the broken 8 iron
STACY LEE BREGMAN: Yeah I did. I chipped up pretty close and I made par.
Q. How many positions did you end up with your 8 iron in that shape?
STACY LEE BREGMAN: Quite a few, but I had to improvise. I think out of the times I needed my 8 iron I just gripped down on a 7 iron or hit a hard 9 iron, I probably birdied at least two or three times of that time.
Q. What options do you have now with your 8 iron?
STACY LEE BREGMAN: I’m going to try and see if I can get it fixed. Obviously I need the right shaft put in but if I can’t get a shaft in I shot 6 under today, so it can’t be that bad.
Q. What was the key to your round today?
STACY LEE BREGMAN: I have been playing well the last couple of weeks. I have a good caddy of the bag, Steve Walsh and he’s kept me calm and nothing really fazes him and he knows what to say to me at the right time.
Q. Was reading the putts the thing that was the key?
STACY LEE BREGMAN: Yeah, definitely. The greens breaks are subtle so you just have to make sure you keep the pace up on them because if they start dying at the hole they move a bit. So my pace today was pretty good.
Q. When the shaft broke, did you think this was going to be a disaster?
STACY LEE BREGMAN: I was a bit upset but I never threw my toys and the cut or anything. I always say when the situation comes to hitting that shot, if I needed the 8 iron you just got to work around it. It wasn’t really a big deal today.
