Interview with China’s home hope Jia Yun Li
Jia Yun Li at the Sanya Ladies Open in Hainan, China, where she earned a career best finish of 6th in October 2013.

The 25-year-old second year LET member from Guangzhou is looking forward to next week’s Mission Hills World Ladies Championship in Haikou, where she tied for 40th place in the individual stroke play event last year.

You have played at Mission Hills Haikou before. How excited are you to be going back?

Yes, I have played the World Ladies Championship the last two years and represented the China team. This is the first tournament of the CLPGA so I am very excited and looking forward to going back.

What are your impressions of Mission Hills Resort Haikou?

It is the best golf resort I have ever been to. The golf courses are awesome. I also like the hotel and the five continents hot spring.

What is special about this venue?

At this tournament we are not only playing for ourselves but also for our country, so it means a lot for every player.

How does this compare with the other venues on tour?

I think this event will be more fun and more challenging. It will put more pressure on the players.

What do you think of the unique 3-in-1 pro, team and amateur format?

I think it is a very good start. It is like the Olympic Games rehearsal.

What are your personal goals for the tournament?

I don't have a specific goal for this tournament. I hope I can enjoy the game and have fun there.

Do you feel your game is good enough to win?

Haha, I think not yet. I still have a long run to go compared with my good friend Shanshan Feng who won the 2012 WLC.

How do you feel about your start to the season?

I feel I can do better in the up-coming tournaments. I am working very hard to improve my game after the Australian events.

What are your general goals for this year?

Win one LET event is my 2014 goal. I need to work very hard to achieve it.

How have you been preparing for the WLC at Mission Hills and how are you approaching the new season?

After I came back from Australia, I have kept training in Zhuhai with my coach. I am working on my back swing take away and down swing release. Otherwise, we work a lot on fitness in the morning and afternoon to improve the stability of our body and physical strength.

Do you have any new hobbies or have you done anything particularly interesting or noteworthy over the off-season or last few weeks?

I have very much enjoyed the off-season. I hung out with my family and friends, such as watching moves, shopping and playing indoor games. Normally I travel with my family and friends during the off-season. But the last off-season was not long enough, so I am planning a big trip after the 2014 season ends.

Is there anything new in your set-up this year, i.e. new clubs, coach, fitness regime, charity work, sponsor etc?

I am working with a new coach this year and hope we will have a good cooperation. I also have a new sponsor which is an indoor golf simulator named, Yerygood. Yerygood indoor golf simulator will help more ladies and kids, who don't like to expose to the sun, to experience the fun of golf. Yerygood and I will work together to promote golf in China which is what I am trying to do all the time.
