|Joanna Klatten of France fired out of the blocks early this season when she won the two opening events on the Australian Ladies Professional Golf Tour. She also posted some impressive results in the co-sanctioned events with the LET, including a tie for 11th at the Volvik RACV Ladies Masters. Here she discusses her hopes for the next tournament, the World Ladies Championship at Mission Hills Resort Haikou in China.
You have played at Mission Hills Haikou before. How excited are you to be going back?
I’m thrilled to go back to Mission Hills. I love this resort and the golf course. It’s in great condition and the practice facilities are awesome.
How excited are you to be returning to China?
I’m very excited, although I was there only four months ago. I always have a great time there.
What are your impressions of Mission Hills Resort Haikou?
It has everything to make me happy: great golf course and practice facilities, great spa, great gym, and great food.
What is special about this venue?
Everything! The course is in immaculate condition and it’s just a great design. It’s a golfer's paradise.
How does this compare with the other venues on tour?
I reckon its one of the best venues. The driving range is fantastic, as well as the chipping green and putting green. The golf course is perfect and the whole environment also. I think that if every venue was like this one, we would all improve our game quicker.
What do you think of the Chinese food?
It’s growing on me. I have to admit it was not my favourite at the beginning but today I really like it. Dumplings and peking duck are my favourite dishes.
What are your personal goals for the tournament?
Keep a good attitude on the course.
Do you feel your game is good enough to win?
I need to work harder on my short game to win.
How do you feel about your start to the season?
It’s been quite successful but my short game has let me down because I did not work hard enough on it.
How have you been preparing for the WLC at Mission Hills and how are you approaching the new season?
I have played seven weeks of competitive golf in Australia so I should be prepared enough for the WLC. I’m excited about this new season and the opportunity to keep getting better.
Do you have any new hobbies or have you done anything particularly interesting or noteworthy over the off-season or last few weeks?
Sochi has made me realise how much I miss skiing and that’s definitely something I need to do in the off season next year.
Is there anything new in your set-up this year, i.e. new clubs, coach, fitness regime, charity work, sponsor etc?
I’m changing to HONMA clubs very soon, otherwise I have the same coaches and my fitness regime is getting stronger with two different personal trainers :)
