|The 2013 LET Access Series Order of Merit winner Mireia Prat, who won two tournaments on LETAS last season, will be looking to make an impact when she represents Spain alongside Patricia Sanz Barrio in the World Ladies Championship at Mission Hills.
How excited are you about visiting and playing at Mission Hills Haikou for the first time?
I am really looking forward to the tournament and visiting Mission Hills Haikou. I have played another Mission Hills course in Shenzen: the Vijay Singh Course. I played the Universiade in 2010 there. I enjoyed it so much and I think all the Mission Hills golf courses are amazing. Can’t wait to see it!
What have you heard about this venue?
I heard it’s one of the best championship golf courses in Asia, I guess it’s very challenging and in great conditions. I heard it’s a huge golf resort too, so I think we will spend a good and fun week in Haikou.
What do you think of the unique 3-in-1 format and your chance to represent your country in the team format?
It’s the only LET event that is played individually, teams and best amateur, so I think it’s great fun. It’s my first time participating in this tournament and I am really happy to represent Spain in the team competition.
How excited are you to be returning to China?
It’s my second time in China. I only have played the Universiade Shenzen 2010 as an amateur with the Spanish team. It was played in August and it was really hot and humid. I hope it will be not as hot as that time...it was excessive! Sweating all the time!
What do you think of the Chinese food?
I don’t mind eating Chinese food. I like it but just for a few days...I prefer Spanish food, he-he.
What are your personal goals for the tournament?
Everyone would wish to win this tournament I think…and me too, but my goal is to play good golf and consolidate some things that I am working on.
Do you feel your game is good enough to win?
I think my game is good enough to win but, as always, it depends on my feelings in the tournament, the course, but my self-confidence is good now.
What are your general goals for this year?
Play good golf on the tournaments and if I do the right things and I work well, the results at the end of the season will be good.
How happy are you with your start to the season in Australia?
I am quite happy because it’s the beginning of the season and I could make the two cuts even though I didn’t play my best golf. I would have wished to qualify for Australian Open but I have more chances in the next years!
How have you been preparing for the WLC at Mission Hills and how are you approaching the new season?
I went back home after the Australian Open qualifying , and I had 2-3 weeks to work in my golf and also at the gym to be in good shape and ready for the next tournaments, China and Morocco.
Do you have any new hobbies or have you done anything particularly interesting or noteworthy over the off-season or last few weeks?
I rented an apartment last November and my “new hobby” was going furniture shopping to IKEA and try to decorate it. I love it.
Is there anything new in your set-up this year, i.e. new clubs, coach, fitness regime, charity work, sponsor etc?
I got the new Taylor Made SLDR driver and woods last week, I will wear Galvin Green outfits and Adidas golf shoes. I am still member of ProSpain Team, supported by the Spanish Federation. Also, I got Marta Figueras-Dotti Scolarship last October, awarded to a Spanish lady player, because of my good 2013 season. It is composed of economic support and management services by Deporte&Business.
