Compleat Golfer hosted the 22nd edition of its Annual Awards Dinner at Country Club Johannesburg last night, celebrating the achievers of 2013 from the golfing industry of South Africa. Host Dale Hayes was in fine form behind the microphone and was joined by golfing personalities Dave Usendorff, Sally Little and comedian Joe Parker.
The evening was the perfect occasion to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first edition of Compleat Golfer magazine, currently the longest-running sports title in South Africa.

Grant Leversha accepted the Contribution to the Golf Industry award, recognising his outstanding achievements as a golf photographer. Leversha’s celebrated latest book, entitled Within an African Eden, has received numerous publishing excellence awards.
Other award winners on the night included Lee-Anne Pace for Compleat Golfer’s Player of the Year and Gary Player for Newsmaker of the Year. Player turned heads when he posed nude for ESPN’s The Body Issue last year, and sent a light-hearted video acknowledging his award.
SA’s No 1 lady golfer Pace also walked off with the WPGA Golfer of the Year title for the fourth straight year, and there were awards for amateurs Kim Williams, Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Kyle McClatchie too. Williams has since turned professional.
Lali Stander collected a cheque for R10 000 from Telkom Business’ Braam Wessels after being recognised for her contribution to golf journalism over the past 17 years.
Rising star Dawie van der Walt collected the Volvo Mover of the Year award in recognition of his climb up the World Ranking. Van der Walt started 2013 ranked 436th in the world, but wins in the Tshwane Open and Nelson Mandela Championship saw him move up to 174th.
