Mathilda Cappeliez of France who finished in a tie for 25th at the recent Lalla Meryem Cup, had another strong showing at the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open where she finished as the leading amateur, two days before her 16th birthday.
Playing in a Ladies European Tour event for the third time and making her debut in Turkey, Cappeliez shot rounds of 70, 78 and 78 to end in a share of 45th place on seven-over-par.
Although disappointed with her score, she said: “It’s always a good experience. The course is very beautiful and the organisation is always good so the difference between amateur and pro, pro is a higher level. My result is not great here but I made the cut so that was my first goal. I hope I will get an invite to the ISPS HANDA Ladies European Masters at Buckinghamshire Golf Club.”
Mathilda who lives in Evian-Les-Bains and trains at the Evian Resort course, is still at school five days a week but is considering moving to another school in America.
She hopes to qualify for the Junior Ryder Cup at Gleneagles this year and will also try for the PING Junior Solheim Cup next year at St. Leon-Rot in Germany.
