|
PROFESSIONAL
- In 2012, after two months out from the game with a hip injury, Caroline returned in style by earning her fifth LET title when she successfully defended at the UNIQA Ladies Golf Open presented by Raiffeisen at Golfclub Föhrenwaldh in Austria. She won by four strokes ahead of Mikaela Parmlid and Laura Davies. She fired a career low round of 62 (-10) during the second round of the Hero Women’s Indian Open and almost successfully defended the title, but was bested by Pornanong Phatlum after hitting her approach shot into the water short of the green and ending in second place. Despite only playing in six tournaments throughout the season, Caroline ended in 29th place on the ISPS Handa Order of Merit and 5th place on the European Solheim Cup rankings going into 2013. On the LPGA, she played in 18 events, 13 cuts made, $216,074 (57), recorded 2 top-10 finishes and 6 top-12 finishes including a career-best tie for fifth at the Kia Classic. Took several tournaments off in the summer due to her hip injury.
- In 2011, began an incredible rookie season by winning the New South Wales Open on the Australian Ladies Professional Golf tour on her pro debut in January. She then won four titles on the Ladies European Tour, firstly at the Allianz Ladies Slovak Open at Gray Bear Golf Club, followed by the Finnair Masters at Helsinki Golf Club, the UNIQA Ladies Golf Open at Golfclub Föhrenwaldh in Austria and the Hero Women's Indian Open at DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon, near New Delhi. Recorded four additional top-10 finishes: a tie for 2nd at the Deloitte Dutch Ladies Open; tied 7th at the DeutscheBank Ladies Swiss Open; tied 9th at the Suzhou Taihu Ladies Open and tied 9th at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters. She then collected the Players’ Player of the Year Award, as voted for by her fellow competitors, having ended the year ranked third on the LET’s official Henderson Money List, behind Ai Miyazato and Melissa Reid, with season’s earnings of 278,529 from 20 tournaments played. This award was launched in 1995 and Hedwall became the first player in LET history to win both this award and be named the Rolex Rookie of the Year in the same season. She also played a starring role on Europe’s winning Solheim Cup team winning 2 ½ points at Killeen Castle in Ireland with a 2-1-1 record. Caroline formed a strong partnership with Sophie Gustafson, defeating Vicky Hurst and Brittany Lincicome by 5 and 4 in the Friday fourballs and beating Angela Stanford and Stacy Lewis by 6 and 5 in the Saturday foursomes. Earned a vital halve against Ryann O’Toole in the penultimate singles match on Sunday to help bring the overall score to 15-13.
