Biography Hernandez, Maria (ESP)

PROFESSIONAL

  • In 2012, Maria played a limited schedule due to injury (bulging disc). She competed in three LET events with a season best tie for 17th at the Lacoste Ladies Open de France.
  • In 2011, played in five LET tournaments with a season best tie for 15th at the ANZ RACV Ladies Masters.
  • In 2010, her rookie season on the LET, played in seven events and earned her maiden victory at the inaugural Allianz Ladies Slovak Open at Gray Bear Golf Club with a one shot victory over Kristie Smith. Posted two further top ten finishes: tied for 5th at the Open de Espana Femenino and tied for 7th at the ABN AMRO Ladies Open. Finished 14th on the Henderson Money List with season’s earnings of €115,588.82. Finished second on the LET rookie of the year standings to South Korean In Kyung Kim.
  • In 2009, turned professional in June. Finished 10th at LET Final Stage Qualifying School; finished sixth at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament, where she earned Priority List Category 11 for the 2010 LPGA season.

AMATEUR

Hernandez tied for 31st at the 2003 Open de Espana Femenino as an amateur. She tied for 13th at the same tournament in 2005 and tied for 55th in 2009. The 2009 NCAA Player of the Year, from Purdue University, turned in a strong collegiate career, which was capped off with the NCAA Division I Individual Championship. She won eight times while at Purdue University, and in 2008, she won the Big Ten Conference Championship and was named the Purdue Female Athlete of the Year. She's a two-time Duramed National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-American First Team selection, and a two-time Big Ten Conference Player of the Year, both in 2007 and 2008. An eight year member of the Spanish National Team, Hernandez is a five-time European Team Championship gold medalist, and earned a gold medal at the 2005 Mediterranean Games as an individual and as a team.
