Biography Shimanskaya, Vera (RUS)

was born in Moscow on April 10, 1981. My mother brought me for the first time to the gymnasium as a four year old lean, indifferent to food girl so that I by performing tumbles increased my appetite and put on some weight. With passage of time the activity for health turned into a serious devotion to rhythmic gymnastics. Sixteen years of daily and persistent practice resulted in my inclusion in the Russian national team. The high ratings by the judges, admiration by the audience is the peak of success, which arises from daily, hard work at the training sessions. Perfection in group exercises is achieved exclusively thanks to the high team spirit, harmonious team performance and absolute individual skill. The girls selected for the team are by physical height and strong will. There are no weak girls in the Russian national team. The first major competition for me was the world championship in Seville, Spain in 1998, where we occupied the third place. The following year in Osaka our team became the best in the world. We flew to Sydney for 'gold'. On September 30th, day in honor of Faith, Hope and Love I, together with my team-mates stood on top the podium and the Russian national anthem was played in our honor. My Olympic dream would not have been fulfilled, had I in 1999 left gymnastics after seriously injuring my knee in one of the training sessions. As they call it I 'fell out' from the team. It took me great effort to withstand such a blow and not lose heart. Now I continue my sports career at a professional level, directing my knowledge and experience in training children to this wonderful sport and have opened my own school for rhythmic gymnastics. The school founded in 2002 today accepts hundreds of children every day, who train under the guidance of experienced and titled trainers. Perfecting the method of preparation, in 2003 I decide to reflect all the intricacies of this difficult and beautiful kind of sport in the film for young gymnasts. The film 'Five elements of rhythmic gymnastics', conceived as a guide for beginners, was among the best of 204 films from 88 countries at the International Festival for sports films in Milan. The main prize contender was the high budget film 'Pele Forever' shot by the Hollywood studio 'Universal'. It was presented by Pele in person at the Festival. However the International Jury saw the true value of creative idea of the film from Russia and it was my film that got the main prize. At the grand palace 'Guriccorsulti' in the center of Milan, in the presence of huge audience I was awarded the 'Honorary Garland in career'. People, who have contributed significantly to sport, its cultural and social values, are awarded this Garland. For the first time in 23 years of existence of this festival the Garland was awarded to a Russian sportswoman, i.e. me, and I was full of pride for self and my country. In my 23 years I could not live with the thought that I can never be an active sportswoman. The problem with gymnastics is that it is a too young kind of sport and with each year it becomes younger and younger. In 2005 I was invited as guest to the fan, amateur golf competition. There I was given the brassy and suggested to hit the ball. The ball flew so far and straight that I was awarded the main prize for the farthest shot. Here I also won the mini golf competition. Thus was my first acquaintance with golf. Someone told me that I have talent and should seriously play golf. Here I started playing golf and again experience strength in me and the joy of success, although it is not big, but I know that they surely will be as it cannot be otherwise. Golf is wonderful that you can dedicate all your sporting life, striving for perfection. Facts: 2000 Sydney ?
